Nonlinear dynamics of semiconductor lasers with active optical feedback

An in-depth theoretical as well as experimental analysis of the nonlinear dynamics in semiconductor lasers with active optical feedback is presented. Use of a monolithically integrated multi-section device of sub-mm total length provides access to the short-cavity regime. By introducing an amplifier section as novel feature, phase and strength of the feedback can be separately tuned. In this way, the number of modes involved in the laser action can be adjusted. We predict and observe specific dynamical scenarios. Bifurcations mediate various transitions in the device output, from single-mode steady-state to self-pulsation and between different kinds of self-pulsations, reaching eventually chaotic behavior in the multi-mode limit

Дизайн интерьера общественного лектория как образовательной составляющей креативной среды современного города

Метою дослідження є виявлення особливостей дизайну громадського лекторію як освітньої складової соціокультурного середовища сучасного міста. Дослідження базується на структурно-системному, історико-культурологічному, мистецтвознавчому, компаративному та логічному методах. Джерельною базою дослідження є наукові статті українських та зарубіжних авторів, проєкти-аналоги громадських лекторіїв в Україні та закордоном. Визначено вплив громадського лекторію на формування культурних та соціальних інтересів мешканців сучасного мегаполісу. Проаналізовано типи приміщень лекторію з точки зору приналежності до соціокультурних освітніх просторів, що є інструментом формування креативного суспільства. Розроблено класифікацію громадських лекторіїв за основними ознаками. Проаналізовано український та закордонний досвід проєктування громадських лекторіїв та узагальнено особливості дизайну їх інтер’єрів. Уточнено поняття лекторію як складової креативного міського простору, що має вплив на формування соціокультурного середовища міста та підвищення обізнаності сучасного населення. Проаналізовано та систематизовано український та закордонний досвід створення освітніх громадських лекторіїв. Проведені дослідження щодо виявлення особливостей соціокультурної ролі сучасного громадського лекторію як різновиду міського креативного середовища, а також основних засад дизайну його приміщень стануть корисними для сучасної практики дизайну та популяризації освітніх просторів.Целью исследования является выявление особенностей дизайна общественного лектория как образовательной составляющей социокультурной среды современного города. Исследование базируется на структурно-системном, историко-культурологическом, искусствоведческом, компаративном и логическом методах. Теоретической базой исследования являются научные статьи украинских и зарубежных авторов, проекты-аналоги общественных лекториев в Украине и за рубежом. Определено влияние общественного лектория на формирование культурных и социальных интересов жителей современного мегаполиса. Проанализированы типы помещений лектория с точки зрения принадлежности к социокультурным образовательным пространствам, являющиеся инструментом формирования креативного общества. Разработана классификация общественных лекториев по основным признакам. Проанализирован украинский и зарубежный опыт проектирования общественных лекториев и обобщены особенности дизайна их интерьеров. Уточнено понятие лектория как составляющей креативного городского пространства, оказывающего влияние на формирование социокультурной среды города и повышение осведомленности современного населения. Проанализирован и систематизирован украинский и зарубежный опыт создания образовательных общественных лекториев. Проведены исследования по выявлению особенностей социокультурной роли современного общественного лектория как разновидности городской креативной среды, а также основных принципов дизайна его помещений станут полезны для современной практики дизайна и популяризации образовательных пространств.The purpose of the study is to identify the design aspects of a public lecture hall as an educational component of the socio-cultural environment in a modern city. The study is based on structural-systemic, historical-cultural, comparative, logical methods, as well as art history methods. The core base of the study is scientific articles of Ukrainian and foreign authors, analogous projects of public lectures in Ukraine and abroad. The influence of public lecture halls on the formation of cultural and social interests of the inhabitants of the modern metropolis is determined. The types of lecture halls are analyzed as part of socio-cultural educational spaces which are a tool for forming a creative society. The classification of public lecture halls according to the main features is developed. The Ukrainian and foreign experience of designing public lecture halls is analyzed, and the peculiarities of their interior design are generalized. The concept of the lecture hall as a component of the creative urban space, which has an impact on the formation of the socio-cultural environment of the city and on improving knowledge of the modern population, is clarified. The Ukrainian and foreign experience of creating educational public lecture halls is analyzed and systematized. Research on the socio-cultural role of modern public lecture halls as a type of urban creative environment, as well as the basic principles of design of its premises, will be useful for modern design and promotion of educational spaces

Chaos Generation and Synchronization Using an Integrated Source With an Air Gap

We discuss experimentally and numerically the dynamical behavior of a novel integrated semiconductor laser subject to multiple optical feedback loops. The laser’s structure consists of distributed feedback section coupled to a waveguide, an air gap section and two phase sections. It is found that the laser, due to the multiple feedback loops and under certain operating conditions, displays chaotic behaviors appropriate for chaos-based communications. The synchronization properties of two unidirectionally coupled (master-slave) systems are also studied. Numerical investigation of semiconductor ring lasers with two external cavities

Noninvasive optical control of complex semiconductor laser dynamics

Time-delayed feedback control (TDFC) is transferred to the optical domain and applied to complex multisection semiconductor lasers as used in optical communication. Pyragas-type control is provided by purely optical feedback from an external Fabry-Pérot interferometer. This all-optical setup needs no time-consuming signal processing and, thus, has practically no speed limit. Proof-of-principle experiments demonstrate noninvasive stabilization of unstable steady states, chaos control, and suppression of noise-induced oscillations on picosecond time scales. A Lang-Kobayashi type model with optical TDFC is investigated taking into account the dynamic details of the device as well as all-optical time-delayed feedback. The parameter regimes that allow for stabilization of stationary emission are mapped out in good agreement with the experiments. Including noise, an analytical expression for the power spectral density is derived, which is confirmed by the experimental all-optical suppression of noise-induced relaxation oscillations
